Production Team Leader

Weston-Super-Mare

Day shift - every other Friday off

Thomas Recruitment is recruiting for an experienced Team Leader to join our client, a well-established manufacturing business. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on production professional with supervisory experience who is looking to take the next step in their leadership career.

The successful candidate will support the Production Manager in ensuring production schedules are achieved, quality standards are maintained, and teams are motivated and developed to deliver outstanding results. This role offers a clear pathway towards developing into a Unit Manager position.

Key Responsibilities

Production & Operations

  • Support and provide cover for the Production Manager and other Cell Leaders as required.
  • Allocate labour effectively to ensure production targets and customer delivery schedules are achieved.
  • Monitor productivity and communicate any issues impacting performance.
  • Translate production plans into daily build schedules and ensure clear communication across the team.
  • Track production progress and resolve issues in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Ensure all products meet quality standards and customer specifications.

Team Leadership

  • Provide leadership, guidance, coaching, and support to production team members.
  • Train and develop employees to ensure they have the skills and knowledge required to perform their roles effectively.
  • Monitor trainee progress and encourage continuous learning and development.
  • Manage attendance, holidays, overtime, and staffing levels to meet operational requirements.
  • Conduct return-to-work interviews and support first-line absence management processes.
  • Assist with disciplinary, grievance, and capability procedures in line with company policies.

Continuous Improvement

  • Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives within the manufacturing unit.
  • Promote 5S and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality, and efficiency.
  • Work closely with Quality and Engineering teams to implement improvements.

Quality, Health & Safety

  • Promote and maintain a strong health and safety culture.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping standards throughout the production area.
  • Ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained and accurately recorded.
  • Support quality audits and ensure adherence to manufacturing standards.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Previous experience in a Team Leader, Supervisor, Chargehand, or similar manufacturing leadership role.
  • Experience working within a production or assembly environment.
  • Strong people management, coaching, and motivational skills.
  • Excellent communication and organisational abilities.
  • Experience driving process improvements and operational efficiencies.
  • A proactive and hands-on approach to problem-solving.
  • The ability to work effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities.
  • Knowledge of quality management systems and manufacturing audits.
  • A strong commitment to health and safety.
